“Beautiful setting but bring your own beer”

There are several positive things to say about this hotel, namely the beautiful ocean-view setting, modern design and cleanliness. We stayed in one of their suites. The beds were comfortable. The shower was good. The pool was relaxing. Where this hotel goes wrong is in the small stuff. We ordered cocktails at the bar that were simply disgusting. The lights in the public toilets go off before you have a chance to finish your business. Some of the staff, while generally friendly, seem to have little idea about how to execute their jobs. We expected better service for the money we paid.

Memmo Baleeira Hotel

I have just spent 11 nites (H/B) in The Memmo Baleeira Hotel and I must say it was a truly fantastic break.
The location is excellent overlooking the beautiful quaint marina! It is a wonderfully designed hotel and really has the WOW factor. The cleanliness of the hotel is remarkable and there are cleaners visibly hard at work all the time.
The food was truly excellent with a varied menu catering for all taste buds! Compliments to the Chefs who clearly know what they are doing. The service in the restaurant and bar at all times was of a Five Star standard with smiling professional waiting staff looking after us. I have to say though that the restaurant manager was quite unfriendly and we witnessed him on numerous occassions snapping and telling off staff in front of diners. This was embarrassing for both the staff concerned and diners and was unecessary in my eyes as they could not possibly be providing better service.
The reception staff were also unwelcoming, inhospitable and generally unhelpful. We did not get any information whatsoever on checking in and felt almost unwelcome. Having asked them basic questions about the hotel and area in the first day or two and almost getting “barked” at we just made a decision to keep away from them until check out.
Its such a pity that these two areas left the hotel down and this is my rating for service is 3/5.
Overall I would not hesitiate in staying here again due to the location, standard of cuisine, the really relaxed atmosphere and of course the best Mojito I have had in a very long time!
Well Done!

This hotel (and Sagres) is for those that are wishing for a relaxing holiday… the hotel has great decor and is very spacious. Everywhere is so clean… we wanted a sea view room but were only able to get a garden view room…. do not be disappointed with a garden view room… in comparison to my friends room (which was a sea view room) it was a much more spacious room with a little garden area with loungers outside and we still had a view of the harbour and sea from our room… the sea view rooms have a small balcony over looking the pool and look out to sea… also a great room but a little on the smaller side.
Breakfast was great with a wide range of cereals, fruit juices, yoghurts, fresh fruits, cold meats and cheeses, breads and hot buffet with scrambled eggs (yum!), bacon, sausage etc … we also had bar snacks by the pool which were a little on the pricey side but probably better quality than any other place that we had eaten at in the area 8.50 euros for a chicken pitta with potato wedges… also… their mojito’s should be tasted!!! Dinner was reasonably priced with the average cost of a main course being 15 euros and also better standard than any other places that we had eaten in the area… if you do wish to eat lunch out, there is a restaurant next to the hotel called A Tasca which overlooks the harbour.
The harbour is right next to the hotel where you can book a trip to see dolphins, it cost 30 euros per person but is well worth the experience and the couple that organise it are very friendly and were very flexible in taking us out on our own personal trip at an unscheduled time when we called them to book.
Do take the time to make full use of the facilities like the sauna and Turkish baths.
Two members of staff that were memorable for us were Joaquim and another small skinny guy with glasses that worked in the bar and restaurant… they were very friendly and funny! : )
All in all… the words I would use to describe the hotel would be… peaceful, tranquil, relaxing… BLISS!

“Awesome hotel”

The hotel was beautiful and in a great location. Loved the design feel to it – especially the pool area overlooking the bay. It also served as a good wind shield in an area usally verging on gale force winds! We had a great room overlooking the pool area with a little balcony and it was very nice – plus clean which is always a bonus. Rather typical for Portugal the staff weren’t exactly rude just disinterested in being of any assistance. it wasn’t a language issue as I speak portuguese.
I also need to mention the breakfast which was really lovely, and the breakfast room itself was a really nice setting.
we didn’t eat in the restaurant itself – but it seemed overpriced for the area. but there are so many great places nearby it didnt matter.
The area around Sagres is great, with amazing beaches i strongly recomend it. Plus a few nice bars seem to have popped up in Sagres in the last few years that are definately worth a visit. It was such a great setting I even got proposed to while we were there.
